Health care shouldn’t depend on your zip code or your income. When I served as a pastor in rural Virginia, the closest hospital was almost an hour away. Here in Iowa, I’ve watched rural hospitals close and mental health services disappear. To make healthcare accessible and affordable, we need to roll back the massive Medicaid cuts Zach Nunn voted for this year, which will cause 86,000 Iowans to lose their health insurance, and close rural hospitals and clinics. We also need to extend the ACA tax credits to keep insurance affordable for working families.
In Congress, I’ll fight for common-sense solutions like allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices to lower costs and provide people with more choices. I’ll work to let more Iowans access care earlier through Medicare and roll back the disastrous cuts to Medicaid that Zach Nunn voted for. I’ll also expand mental health and substance use treatment and push for increased support for rural providers—because nobody should have to drive 90 miles or wait six months to see a doctor.
