Sarah Trone Garriott Launches New TV Ad, “Hard”

DES MOINES, IA – Sarah Trone Garriott’s campaign today launched “Hard.” The 30-second spot begins running today on broadcast TV and digital across Iowa’s Third District.

“Hard” opens on Sarah’s first night as a hospital chaplain, when she baptized two babies while the NICU staff worked to save them. That was the start of a career spent sitting with families on the most difficult day of their lives, first at the hospital, then as a parish pastor, and then at the Des Moines-area food pantry network. It taught her the thing the ad turns on: after those conversations, no conversation feels hard.

“I spent years sitting with families on the worst day of their lives, so no conversation in Washington feels hard to me,” said Sarah Trone Garriott. “Zach Nunn will not even hold a town hall, and I am not afraid to stand in front of Iowans, hear their concerns, and work to make their lives better, even if it means upsetting the politicians and lobbyists in Washington.”

That is the contrast in this race. Sarah has spent her life showing up for people, listening to what they need, and then doing something about it. Zach Nunn will not have the conversation at all. During his time in Congress, he has never held a single public town hall, dismissing them as “taxpayer-funded protest events.” He votes with his party leaders about 95 percent of the time, and Iowans are living with the results: higher gas prices, higher grocery prices, and more expensive health care.

Sarah has done the opposite. She has held town halls in every county in the district, all of them open to anyone who wanted to come. As a state senator representing a Republican district, she has knocked on thousands of doors and handed out her personal phone number, including to people who told her they were not going to vote for her.

The ad closes on why she is running: to clean up the corruption in Washington. Sarah has already written a term limits bill and a real ban on politicians trading stocks in the Iowa Senate, and her Higher Standard agenda would require every member of Congress to hold open public town halls, ban corporate PAC money, and overturn Citizens United. She has not taken a dime from corporate PACs in this race.

Trone Garriott, an ordained Lutheran minister and former hospital chaplain, spent nine years with the Des Moines-area food pantry network, where she brought people together to feed more than 32,000 Iowans a month. In the Iowa Senate, she has worked across the aisle on the costs Iowa families feel most, including cutting taxes, prescription drug costs, and child care costs, and she introduced legislation to institute term limits and ban politicians and their staff from trading stocks.

“Hard” begins airing today on broadcast television and digital across Iowa’s Third District.
