Does Zach Nunn Agree With Mariannette Miller-Meeks On Refusing To Hold A Town Hall?

Des Moines, IA — After Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks declared she would hold a town hall “When hell freezes over,” Iowa State Senator and congressional candidate Sarah Trone Garriott is calling out Congressman Zach Nunn for hiding from the Iowans he was elected to represent.“

Mariannette Miller-Meeks may have said the quiet part out loud, but Zach Nunn’s doing the same thing,” said Trone Garriott. “He’s completely unwilling to meet with the people he represents. While Nunn is busy attending closed-door meetings with donors and political insiders, I’m holding public town halls, taking questions, and listening to the real challenges families are facing thanks to his vote to defend the tariffs causing chaos for farmers and raising prices on working families.”

As KCCI highlighted, Miller-Meeks recently remarked she would host a town hall “When hell freezes over” — a dismissive remark emblematic of Iowa Republicans’ growing hostility toward the people they’ve been elected to represent. Meanwhile, Zach Nunn has refused to hold a single open town hall since taking office, opting instead for private events and photo ops away from the voters of Iowa’s Third Congressional District. Zach Nunn even derided the idea of a public town hall with the constituents he was elected to serve as “A taxpayer-funded protest event.”

By contrast, Sarah Trone Garriott recently hosted a fully open and public town hall in Des Moines, where she took questions directly from constituents about rising costs, healthcare, water quality, and threats to reproductive freedom. As reported by the Iowa Capital Dispatch, Sarah “criticized Nunn for failing to meet publicly with voters” and emphasized the importance of listening and responding to community concerns.“

Public service begins with showing up,” Trone Garriott added. “That’s what I’ve done my entire career — as a parish pastor, a nonprofit leader, and a state senator. Iowans deserve leaders who will listen, answer tough questions, and work to solve problems. Instead, Zach Nunn has made it clear he’d rather avoid meeting with the people he serves.”
